Film actor-director Surya Kiran passed away on Monday due to jaundice in Chennai. The Telugu filmmaker was 48 years years old. The news of Surya's demise was confirmed by his spokesperson on X (formerly Twitter).
"Director #SuryaKiran has passed away due to jaundice. He directed telugu films, Satyam, Raju Bhai and a few others. He was also a former contestant on Biggboss Telugu. Om Shanti," Suresh PRO said in post.
The Bigg Boss Telugu fame actor made his debut as a director in Tollywood movies with the romantic drama ‘Satyam’. Starring Sumanth and Genelia Deshmukh, the romantic comedy is a captivating film that delves into the intricacies of truth and justice, earning acclaim for its compelling narrative and well-drawn characters. Satyam was super hit and ran in theatres for over 150 days.
Surya also directed Telugu movies such as Brahmastram (2006), Raju Bhai (2007) and Chapter 6 (2020).
He had stopped acting or directing movies and had later appeared in the reality television show Bigg Boss Telugu Season 4 in 2020. He was the first participant to be eliminated from the show.
Originally hailing for Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, Surya was born in Chennai. His career as an actor began early. This first acting debut as a child actor was in the 1978 movie ‘Snehikkhan Oru Pennu’. Surya featured in over 200 Tamil and Telugu movies under the alias "Master Suresh" at that time.
Some of his films as a child actor include Kadal Meengal in 1981, Mangamma Sabadham in 1985, 1987 film Manithan, 1987 movie Swayam Krushi and the 1987 film Khaidi No 786 .
He was briefly married to Avunu Valliddharu Ishtapaddaru actress Kalyani, also called Kaveri. The couple parted ways soon. Surya's sister, Sujitha Dhanush, is also an actress and she features in Tegulu television.
