New Delhi: Film, television and digital content conglomerate Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd on Wednesday announced the appointment of Gourav Rakshit as chief operating officer for its digital arm, Viacom18 Digital Ventures. Rakshit will join the organisation in May and report to Sudhanshu Vats, Group CEO and managing director, Viacom18.
An alumnus of the University of Rochester and IIM Ahmadabad, Rakshit is currently serving as president and chief executive officer of People Group that owns and operates online wedding service Shaadi.com.
He has over two decades of experience in consumer technology, IT and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors, having started his career with Nestle and then moving on to Planetasia and Infosys Consulting before joining People Group. The former was his first stint in the media and technology industry, and at the latter, he led consulting engagements for diverse consumer organisations such as Apple, Wells Fargo and Safeway.
Viacom18 Digital Ventures currently runs the video-streaming app VOOT, which is known for catch-up television content from Viacom18’s general entertainment channel Colors, besides originals, including 'It’s Not That Simple' and 'Feet Up With The Stars'. Last year, Viacom18 Motion Pictures also announced the launch of its digital content brand Tipping Point to create web series, short films and non-traditional formats with unconventional narratives for the digital platforms.
“Our digital foray has grown exponentially since its inception three years back, with the sharply segmented businesses – the ad-led model, the international business and the soon-to-be-launched subscription-based VOOT Kids service," Vats said in a statement. “As we unlock business value, Gourav, with an in-depth understanding of digital disruption and a proven track-record of envisioning subscription growth, is the right person to lead our talented teams across the Digital Ventures portfolio."
