Silver rate today: Silver price in India tops ₹2.50 lakh/kg, US Supreme Court tariff decision in focus

Silver prices continued to hold Friday’s early gains after data showed that the US economy added fewer jobs than expected in December, potentially reinforcing the case for additional Federal Reserve rate cuts this year.

March silver future contracts gained ₹7,676 per kilogram, or 3.15%, crossing the ₹2.5 lakh mark to reach ₹2,51,000.

For the week, MCX silver is up nearly ₹10,500 per kilogram, while for the month it has gained ₹11,350 so far. In the last two trading sessions, silver prices had crashed by ₹15,487, or 6%, from the Tuesday closing level of ₹2,58,811 per kg.

Silver prices pared early losses on Friday as investors weighed geopolitical concerns against the ongoing rebalancing of commodity indexes, with focus also turning to a crucial US non-farm payrolls report due later in the day.

As of 7:00 PM, MCX silver prices were trading ₹5,000 higher at ₹2,48,185 per kilogram.

In the international market, spot silver gained 1.4% to $77.97 per ounce, tracking a weekly rise of over 7%.

Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, said, "Sustained strength above ₹2,48,000– ₹2,50,000 keeps the upside momentum intact. A breakout beyond ₹2,52,000– ₹2,55,000 could accelerate gains toward ₹2,60,000– ₹2,70,000. On the downside, a break below ₹2,44,000 would expose supports in the ₹2,43,000– ₹2,38,000 zone, where fresh buying interest is likely to emerge."

After a two-day slide, MCX silver prices rebounded in Friday's session, with the March delivery contract gaining ₹7,000 per kilogram, or 3%, to cross the ₹2.5 lakh mark, reaching ₹2,50,250.

For the week, MCX silver is up nearly ₹10,500 per kilogram, while for the month, it has gained ₹11,350 so far.

The COMEX silver price has bounced back twice after coming close to $70-per-ounce levels. So, this has become a crucial support for the precious white metal. If the precious bullion sustains above this level, then we can expect a higher high bounce for the white metal.

However, in the case of a breakdown below $70 on a closing basis, every rebound should be considered as a dead cat bounce, and the white metal would become an ideal sell on rise asset.

MCX silver price has twice rebounded from ₹2,36,000 and ₹2,33,000 levels. Therefore, these two levels are expected to provide crucial support for the silver price today. If the MCX silver price slips below ₹2,30,000 per kg level on a closing basis, then one needs to assume that silver prices have topped out.

Those who hold positions in silver and gold are advised to remain vigilant regarding the US Supreme Court's ruling on Trump's tariffs. The commodity market in India may close before the ruling comes. Therefore, investors are advised to maintain strict stop loss on a closing basis, as the ruling can go either way, and so does the movement of gold and silver on Monday.

It is likely that the US Supreme Court's ruling on tariffs will not favour Donald Trump. After a gap-up opening on Friday, the COMEX silver has risen around 2.75% and come close to $78 per ounce levels. The COMEX silver price is currently quoting in between $77 to $78 per ounce range.

Silver, closed lower for 2 nd straight session on Thursday, as near-term pressure from commodity index rebalancing continued. The dollar climbed to a 4-week high after better-than-expected U.S. economic data showed a resilient labor market.

Weekly initial jobless claims rose by 8K to 208K, below expectations, while U.S. job cuts fell to a 17-month low. Moreover, the October U.S. trade deficit unexpectedly narrowed to its smallest level in 16 years.

The $80–$83 zone may invite intermittent profit-booking; however, a sustained breakout above $83 would likely trigger the next medium-term leg toward $85–$90. Strong demand is visible in the $75–$77 support zone.

Silver price has a history of crashing heavily after a strong bull trend. We saw this happen in 1980, when the Hunt Brothers reportedly accumulated around one-third of the global silver reserves. This forced exchanges to increase margin money, which has already begun as CDX has raised margin money by 25%. This triggered short-covering due to the liquidity squeeze, and silver prices fell from around $49.50 to around $11 per ounce. The same thing happened in 2011, when silver rates fell 75% after peaking at nearly $48 per ounce.

After opening with an upside gap, the MCX silver rate extended the early morning gains. Currently, MCX silver price is quoting 2,45,528 per kg, around ₹14,000 away from the record high of ₹2,59,322 per kg.

Silver rate today has climbed to an alarming level, and its industrial demand may be jeopardised due to this price rally. Experts said that an industry would start looking at alternatives if its costs shoot up beyond a certain level.

Photovoltaic cells and solar panels have already moved towards copper, leaving silver behind. As for the batteries, efforts are being made to switch from silver to a copper binding technique.

Fresh investors are advised to avoid taking fresh position as the white metal may try to touch ₹2,22,000 to ₹2,20,000 pr kg levels, if it breaks below the crucial support placed at ₹2,35,000. Likewise, if the white metal rises above ₹2,50,000 on a closing basis, we can expect the white metal to go up to ₹2,60,000 lelvels. So, fresh investors should either buy in ₹2,22,000 to ₹2,25,000 zone or in ₹2,50,000 to ₹2,52,000 zone.

In the international market, the COMEX gold rate today is around $4,475 per ounce, while the COMEX silver rate today is $76.350. This means gold-silver ratio is fast approaching 59.

Immediate resistance is seen at $80–$83, where intermittent profit booking is likely. A sustained breakout above $83 could open the next leg toward $85–$90 in the medium term. Strong demand continues to emerge in the $75–$77 zone.

Silver price today on the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) opened upside at ₹2,45,600 per kg and touched an intraday high of ₹2,47,127 per kg. However, profit-booking took place at the higher levels and the white metal retraced from the intraday high. MCX silver rate today for the March 2026 expiry is currently quoting ₹2,44,803 per kg, nearly ₹14,500 away from the record high of ₹2,59,322 per kg.

Silver rates today are under pressure due to the strong US Dollar. On the MCX, the silver price today has a strong support base at ₹2,35,000 per kg, whereas the immediate support for the white metal is placed at ₹2,40,000. On breaking below ₹2,35,000 levels, the precious bullion may try to test ₹2,22,000 to ₹2,20,000 per kg levels.

In other words, the white metal is trading range bound in both ranges. if it breaks above $78, then we can expect the precious metal to touch $80 per ounce levels, whereas on breaking below $75, the white metal may try to test its crucial support placed at $70.50 per ounce levels,” said Anuj Gupta of Ya Wealth.

After a gap-up opening, the COMEX silver rates extended early orning gains and touched an intraday high of $44.295 per ounce. The COMEX silver price is currently quoting $76.875 per ounce.

The COMEX gold rate today is currently quoting $4,475 per ounce, while the COMEX silver rate today is currently quoting $76.175 per ounce, which means gold-silver ratio today is closer to 59.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), silver futures contract for March 2026 expiry finished at ₹2,42,631 per kg, which is ₹16,691 below the record high of ₹2,59,322.

After losing on two straight session, the COMEX silver opened upside on Friday. The COMEX silver price is currently quoting $75.578 per ounce, logging an intraday gain of over half a per cent.
