Market Close Highlights : Nifty ends at 23,465 after fresh high, Sensex up 180pts; auto, consumer goods stocks gain most

Market Close Highlights : European stocks headed for their worst week since January on growing concerns about political turmoil in France.

The Stoxx 600 held at Thursday’s low as France’s CAC 40 index dropped 1%. The euro fell to its lowest against the dollar since April.

S&P 500 futures, meanwhile, held steady after notching up four record highs for the week. A gauge of the dollar rose against major global currencies, while Treasury yields were little changed after falling in the previous session.

European markets are increasingly anxious after French President Emmanuel Macron announced a snap legislative election following his party’s drubbing in the European Parliament elections. Investors fear a win for Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally party, which leads polls by a wide margin, will usher in looser fiscal policies.

The uncertainty has sent the premium France pays on its debt relative to Germany soaring this week, on pace for the biggest move stretching back to the European debt crisis in 2011.

“It’s hard to ignore the parallels between our current situation and the time of the sovereign debt crisis, as there’s that familiar focus on election results, sovereign bond spreads and debt sustainability," said Jim Reid, an analyst at Deutsche Bank AG. That’s “coupled with no obvious sign about where things are headed next."

In Asia, MSCI’s Asia Pacific index slipped as losses in Australian and Chinese stocks offset gains in Japan’s benchmark.

The Bank of Japan triggered a slump in the yen after making investors wait until its July meeting for details on its paring of bond buying, a move that was also seen as a delay in the normalization in policy. Still, Governor Kazuo Ueda said he sees the possibility of a rate hike in July, depending on data.

A “weak yen might weight down the flows from overseas investors in the summer," said Hiromi Ishihara, head of equity investment at Amundi Japan. “That said, we still believe that BOJ is set to move a further hike this year."

Sensex Today Live : Closing Bell Wrap

Sensex Today Live : Indian benchmark indices climbed higher on Friday, with the 50-stock Nifty 50 creating a fresh all-time high, despite weak signals from global markets that were weighed down by lengthening hopes of a rate cut by the US Federal Reserve.

Sensex, which had opened higher at 76,912.38, touched an intraday high of 77,081.30, but pared some of its gains to close at 76,992.77, up 181.87 points, or 0.24%.

Meanwhile, the Nifty 50, which had opened higher at 23,464.95, created a fresh record high of 23,490.40, closed at 23,465.60, up 66.70 points, or 0.29%.

Half of the 30 stocks on the BSE Sensex closed in the red. Mahindra & Mahindra, Titan, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, and UltraTech Cement were the top gainers, while Tech Mahindra, TCS, Wipro, HCLTech, and Larsen & Toubro were the top drags for the day.

On the Nifty 50, 22 of the 50 stocks closed in the red. Eicher Motors, Adani Ports & SEZ, Mahindra & Mahindra, Shriram Finance, and Titan, were the top gainers, while Tech Mahindra, TCS, Wipro, HCLTech, and Larsen & Toubro were the top drags of the day.

The broader market outperformed the benchmark indices, with the BSE SmallCap gaining 1.03% and the BSE MidCap climbing 1.18% at close.

Separately, barring the IT and media indices, all the other sectoral indices closed in the green.

The auto index had gained the most, followed by consumer durables index, while the bank and financial services indices had also gained substantially.

Kunal Shah, Senior Technical & Derivative Analyst at LKP Securities, said, "The BankNifty continued its consolidation phase and was unable to surpass the 50,000 mark, where the highest open interest is built up on the call side. The index needs to decisively surpass the 50,200 mark to confirm an upside breakout towards the 51,000 level. The lower-end support is placed at the 49,500-49,400 zone, and a break below this will open gates for further downside towards 49,000."

Sensex Today Live : Geojit recommends to 'BUY' TTK Prestige

Sensex Today Live : TTK Prestige CMP 751

Target 902 (12 Months)

Return 20%

We revised our target price to 902 (earlier 950) and maintain Buy rating considering the positive demand outlook.

Revenue grew by 2% YoY in Q4FY24 (-8% YoY in exports & 3%YoY in domestic). Exports were impacted due to inflationary pressure.

Gross margin improved by a 100bps, aided by reduction in input prices, however, operating margin declined by 70bps YoY to 12.4% due to higher other expenses.

The recently acquired modular kitchen business (Ultrafresh) has recorded a sale of 31 crore in FY24 ( 23 crore YoY) and has a total of 147 studios now vs 142 YoY.

Decreasing inflation will improve discretionary spending, while strong growth in real estate and the GOI’s push for affordable housing are expected to improve demand for kitchen appliances, positive for TTK.

Expect Revenue/EBITDA/PAT to grow at 9%/17%/17% CAGR over FY24-FY26E. We value TTK at 41x FY26E EPS.

Sensex Today Live : Dear retail investor, here is how to account for politics in your investing

Sensex Today Live : On Friday, 31 May, the BSE Sensex, India’s leading stock market index, closed slightly above 73,961 points, just below the record high of 75,418 set on 23 May. Following the weekend, the market reopened on Monday, 3 June, with the Sensex surging to a new record high of approximately 76,469.

This surge was influenced by the events of the weekend. The final phase of the Lok Sabha elections took place on Saturday, 1 June. Post-election, television channels released their exit polls. The majority predicted a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), forecasting between 350-400 seats, well above the 272 needed for a clear majority. This political optimism likely contributed to the Sensex’s record-breaking performance. (Read the full story here.)

Sensex Today Live : Dr. V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services, says retail investor's eagerness to buy any dip will keep the market resilient

"In the near-term the market is likely to be range bound since there are no major triggers till the budget. Since the valuations are high, particularly in the broader market, any significant up move will invite selling from the FIIs. If the market trends down DIIs and retail investors will pursue a buy on dips strategy that has worked very well in this market. Sustained flows into mutual funds, particularly through the SIP route, and the retail investor's eagerness to buy any dip will keep the market resilient. Investors should now take a medium to long-term view and remain invested in the market focusing on fairly valued largecaps."
