After nearly 8 years of consolidation, Hindustan Copper shares made a strong upmove in 2021. The stock has given multibagger return of over 100% this year (year-to-date). It appears that the multibagger stock might continue to enjoy the spotlight in 2022 as well, thanks to improving fundamentals and strong tailwinds for the copper sector, expects Ventura Securities.

EVs consume 3-4 times more copper as compared to Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles. Globally, EV and energy transition have been the largest demand drivers in the medium to long term. Moreover, copper is also used in the EV infrastructure.

Bitcoin Faces a Year-End Technical Test After its December Swoon

Bitcoin is continuing its December retreat and testing a key technical level that over the past two years has tended to act as a floor for the world’s largest cryptocurrency.

The digital asset fell as much as 2.7% in Asia on Thursday and was trading at about $46,700 as of 2:15 p.m. in Singapore. It’s down some 18% this month amid a broader retreat in the crypto sector.

Bitcoin’s drop has taken the token to its 55-week moving average, a level it effectively held after a December flash crash and during the mid-year embers of a crypto rout. The technical study suggests a decisive break below the average would put a slide to $40,000 in play.

Driving into 2022, road sector set for 'better' days with more projects

All weather terrain' might well be a befitting description for the country's road sector. Weathering the pandemic-induced twists and turns, the sector will see more stretches of national highways, completion as well as awarding of multiple projects and fund raises in 2022, making it a "better" year than the passing one.

Connectivity with remote and tough terrains, decongesting major points in the road network, an integrated multi-modal national network of transportation and logistics, and steering ahead with the ambitious voluntary vehicle scrappage policy are also on the 2022 radar.

Wood panel makers' stocks are poised to benefit from consolidation

Post-covid, listed companies in the home decor industry have been in focus, especially for market share gains from their regional and smaller counterparts. Rising working capital needs and elevated raw material prices have put companies operating in the unorganised sectors in a tight spot at the peak of the pandemic, which benefitted larger companies.

Among the various segments of the home decor industry, analysts say, wood panel makers would see higher growth than pipe and tile makers, driven by the consolidation theme.

Omicron Yet to Curb Driving Across Most of Asia in Boon for Oil

The rapid spread of omicron has yet to dampen road traffic across most of Asia even as it leads to restrictions in parts of Europe, suggesting energy demand in the region may be spared a significant hit.

More cars have thronged the main roads in December amid year-end festivities than seen last month. All but one major Asian country registered a rise in mobility on-month, according to data compiled by Bloomberg using Apple Inc. mobility statistics until Dec. 27.

The broadly positive picture from Asia -- at least so far -- may help to support gasoline demand and refining margins, which in turn could aid physical crude consumption and oil futures into 2022. Global benchmark Brent advanced by more than 3% in the week leading up to Christmas, and has extended gains since then, briefly retopping the $80-a-barrel level on Wednesday.

Asian stocks mixed

Asian stocks were mixed Thursday after U.S. shares edged up to another all-time high amid light volumes in the final days of the year. Treasury yields held a climb.

Shares fluctuated in Japan, China and Hong Kong, where artificial intelligence giant SenseTime Group Inc. jumped on its first day of trading. U.S. equity futures were little changed, after the S&P 500 reached the 70th record close of the year on Wednesday.

The 10-year Treasury yield’s advance took it above its 50-day moving average for the first time in about a month. Australia’s 10-year bond yield increased too. A dollar gauge was steady and crude oil rose.

China’s battered property developers and regulatory crackdown are again in focus heading toward 2022. Some holders of two China Evergrande Group dollar bonds with coupons due Tuesday said they had yet to receive payment.
