BSE share price surges 5% as board to consider issue of bonus shares; Should you buy?

Leading stock exchange Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) share price jumped over 5.3 per cent on Thursday's trading session after it announced that the board will consider to issue bonus shares on March 30.

At 10 am, BSE stock was trading at 4,720 apiece on Thursday, against previous close at 4,474 on Wednesday.

A company issues bonus shares to enhance stock liquidity and reduce its share price, making it more accessible to investors. These are fully paid additional shares granted to existing shareholders at no extra cost.

BSE bonus share issue details

The exchange is yet to announce the record date for the upcoming bonus issue.

"This is in continuation to the stock exchange intimation made by the company on March 26, thereby informing that a meeting of the Board of Directors is scheduled to be held on Sunday, March 30, to inter alia, consider and approve the proposal for issue of bonus shares, subject to requisite approvals," said BSE in a regulatory filing.

BSE further said that its trading window will be closed for securities transactions from March 26, 2025, to April 1, 2025, inclusive of both dates.

"In reference to the above, as per the SEBI (Prohibition of Insider Trading) Regulations, 2015 and the company’s Internal Code for Prevention of Insider Trading, the ‘Trading Window’ for dealing in securities of the Company will remain closed from Wednesday, March 26, 2025, till Tuesday, April 1, 2025 (both days inclusive)," said BSE in the filing.

Furthermore, in accordance with the SEBI (Prohibition of Insider Trading) Regulations, 2015, and the company's Internal Code for Prevention of Insider Trading, BSE announced that the trading window for the company's securities will remain closed from April 1, 2025, until 48 hours after the financial results are announced.

"The date of the Board Meeting in this regard shall be intimated separately. Accordingly, all Designated Persons of the Company have been informed not to trade in the securities of the Company during the aforesaid period of closure of Trading Window," it added.
