Stock exchange operator BSE Ltd on Monday said that domestic market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has approved naming Sundararaman Ramamurthy as its managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO).

His appointment is subject to the approval of the shareholders, BSE said in a regulatory filing.

At present, Ramamurthy is the chief operating officer of the India arm of Bank of America Corp, and has previously worked as a senior vice president at NSE, as per his LinkedIn profile.

The top position has been vacant since July when Ashishkumar Chauhan had stepped down as the chief executive of BSE and is at present the CEO of rival exchange operator NSE. Chauhan was appointed as MD and CEO of NSE in late July.

BSE had earlier said that an executive management committee of the exchange will be running its affairs till the appointment of the new MD and CEO.
