The Indian rupee ended 6 paise higher against the US dollar on Tuesday amid a softer greenback after weak US services data. The local unit ended at 82.61 a dollar as compared to Monday’s close of 82.67.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, was flat at 104.01, while the euro rose 0.12% to $1.0725.

A fall in crude oil prices also supported the rupee. Brent crude futures were down 1.60% at $75.48 a barrel, while the US West Texas Intermediate crude declined 1.68% to $70.90 a barrel.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will begin its three-day meeting today. As per the street consensus, the RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das-led rate setting panel will keep the repo rate unchanged at 6.5% amid cooling inflation in the country.

The Indian benchmark equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty ended flat following weakness in Asian peers. The Sensex ended 5.41 points, or 0.01%, higher at 62,792.88, while the Nifty closed at 18,599.00, up 5.15 points, or 0.03%.

On Monday, the Foreign Institutional Investors (FII) sold Indian shares worth 700.98 crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DII) bought shares worth 1,195.98 crore, data from exchanges showed.
