- BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices also ended in the green zone
- Nifty Media rose 3.87% at the end of the session
New Delhi: After four days of losing streak, the benchmark equity indices on Thursday ended in the positive zone with auto, metal and media sector contributing the most.
Sensex closed at 38,823.11 rising 266.07 points, or 0.69%, while Nifty rose 84 points, or 0.73%, at 11,582.90.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices also ended in the green zone, rising 0.56% and 0.41% respectively.
Hero MotorCorp, Tata Motors, IndusInd Bank, State Bank of India and Vedanta were the most gaining stocks on Sensex, surging as much as 4.46%.
Nifty Media rose 3.87% at the end of the session with Dish TV (16.44%), Den Networks (11.85%) and Zee Entertainment (7.89%) taking the pole positions in the sector.
Meanwhile, shares of IndiGlobe Aviation lost almost 3.3% amid the in-fight between companies founders and promoters.
Among global markets, Asian stocks gained and the dollar dropped on Thursday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell reinforced prospects of a US interest rate cut later this month.
Globally, MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.8%, while Japan’s Nikkei added 0.4%. The Shanghai Composite Index advanced 0.8%, South Korea’s KOSPI climbed 1% and Australian stocks edged up 0.3%.
The US stocks ended higher on Wednesday and the S&P 500 briefly crossed the 3,000-point mark for the first time following Powell’s remarks.

9:40 am: Vedanta contributes the most to Sensex rising 2.69% followed by Tata Steel (2.02%) and State Bank of India (1.43%).
10:15 am: Nifty Pharma takes the pole position among sectors, rising 1.43%.
11:20 am: Shares of IndiGo skids almost 6% on dispute among the promoters. On BSE, the company is trading at ₹1,326.75 down 5.08%.
12:10 pm: Sensex surges 215.18 points, or 0.56%, at 38,772.22.
12:50 pm: Nifty Media surges the most among sectors, rising 2.08%, as Den Networks contributes the 12.03%.
14:30 pm: Broader market in cheerful mood as both the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices up 0.51% and 0.28% respectively.
3:30 pm: Sensex closed at 38,823.11 rising 266.07 points, or 0.69%, while Nifty rose 84 points, or 0.73%, at 11,582.90.
