The Indian stock market is expected to open lower on Tuesday, 25 August tracking global cues. The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a muted start for the Indian benchmark indices, Nifty 50 and Sensex today.
The Gift Nifty was trading around 24,154 level, a discount of nearly 56 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.
The domestic equity indices ended lower in the previous session, with the benchmark Nifty 50 closing below 24,300 level.
The Sensex dropped 171.72 points, or 0.22%, to close at 77,369.11, while the Nifty 50 settled 32.95 points, or 0.14%, lower at 24,219.05.
On the Nifty options front, Chandan Taparia, Head Derivatives & Technicals, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, said that the maximum Call OI is at 24300 then 24200 strike, while the maximum Put OI is at 24,200 then 24,000 strike.
“Call writing is seen at 24,300 then 24200 strike while Put writing is seen at 24,150 then 24,100 strike. Option data suggests a broader trading range in between 23800 to 24800 zones while an immediate range between 24,000 to 24,500 levels,” said Taparia.
Nifty 50 index opened on a flattish note and remained in a sideways to negative trend throughout the session as it failed to sustain above 24,300 zones in the first hour and moved lower towards 24,150 in the second half where it found some support. It formed a bearish candle on the daily frame which indicates pressure in the short term.
“Now it has to cross and hold above 24,250 zones for an up move towards 24,400 then 24,500 zones while support can be seen at 24,100 then 24,000 zones,” said Taparia.
Bank Nifty index opened marginally higher near 57,850 zones but failed to hold its gains and gradually drifted towards 57,250 levels in the first half of the session. However it remained consolidative in a narrow range of 150 points with an overall negative bias in the latter part of the session. It formed a big bearish candle on daily scale as selling pressure was seen at higher zones and is holding below its 20 DEMA.
“Now till it holds below 57,600 zones some weakness could be seen towards 57,000 then 56,750 levels, while on the upside hurdle is seen at 57,750 then 58,000 zones,” the MOFSL analyst added.
Chandan Taparia has recommended three stocks to buy today, 25 August 2026. Taparia recommends buying Siemens, Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX), and Cochin Shipyard shares.
Siemens share price has successfully retested its breakout zone and witnessed strong buying near 3,900 reclaiming the previous swing high around 4,100. Stock has formed bullish Marubozu candle. Volumes are also higher than the 8 session average. Sustaining above 4,100 can trigger the next leg of the up move.
MCX share price has given a strong breakout above the 3,000 zone and is sustaining well above the breakout level. The higher high – higher low structure remains intact with dips getting bought indicating strong underlying demand. RSI is also positively placed and inching higher supporting further upside momentum.
Cochin Shipyard share price is on the verge of giving range breakout above 1,530 marks on daily chart. It has formed a bullish candle and base is shifting higher. Momentum indicators are positively placed.
