Stock market today: The Indian stock market will remain closed today, October 24, 2023 on account of Dussehra or Vijaydahsmi. There will be no trading in the equity segment, equity derivatives segment, and SLB segment.
The currency derivatives market is also shut for trading today. Additionally, trading in the commodity derivatives segment and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) will also be closed today.
Vijayadashami or the 10th day marks the end of the nine-day Navratri festival. According to the Hindu calendar, Dussehra is observed as the victory of Lord Ram over the evil king Ravana.
On October 23, the equity benchmark indices ended in deep red, extending losses for the fourth-straight session, in response to heightened geopolitical tensions, mixed quarterly earnings and spike in US treasury yields. Sensex and Nifty 50 declined over 1% each, while broader markets underperformed the frontline indices.
The US 10-year bond yields touched 5% for the first time since 2007. Nifty 50 lost 260.90 points to settle at 19,281.75. The Sensex fell 825.74 points to close at 64,571.88.
The Nifty 50 and the midcap index close at their lowest points in almost two months. The Nifty midcap 100 closed 2.88% lower, and the Nifty smallcap index lost 3.80%.
As per the list of stock market holidays in October 2023, after Dussehra, the next market holiday will be on November 14,2023 for Diwali Balipratipada. Muhurat Trading will be held on November 12,2023 (Diwali – Laxmi Pujan).
