Stock market holidays 2025: Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Exchange (NSE) announced the list of stock market holidays in 2025 on Friday, December 13, with the first holiday scheduled on February 26, 2025, on account of Mahashivratri. According to the stock market holiday calendar, trading activities on BSE and NSE will be closed for 14 trading days in 2025.
“In pursuance to clause 2 of Chapter IX of the Bye-Laws and Regulation 2.3.1 of part A of Regulations of the Commodity Derivatives Segment, the Exchange hereby notifies trading holidays for the calendar year 2025,” said NSE in its circular released today. According to NSE, the Diwali-special one-hour Muhurat Trading session will be conducted on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. The timings of the Muhurat Trading session will be notified later.
According to the stock exchanges, the days on which usual trading activity will remain suspended on BSE and NSE in 2025 are as follows:
-February 26, 2025 (Wednesday): Mahashivratri
-March 14, 2025 (Friday): Holi
-March 31, 2025 (Monday): Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramadan Eid)
-April 10, 2025 (Thursday): Shri Mahavir Jayanti
-April 14, 2025 (Monday): Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti
-April 18, 2025 (Friday): Good Friday
-May 01, 2025 (Thursday): Maharashtra Day
-August 15, 2025 (Friday): Independence Day
-August 27, 2025 (Wednesday): Ganesh Chaturthi
-October 02, 2025 (Thursday): Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra
-October 21, 2025 (Tuesday) Diwali Laxmi Pujan
-October 22, 2025 (Wednesday): Diwali-Balipratipada
-November 05, 2025 (Wednesday): Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev
-December 25, 2025 (Thursday): Christmas.
Hence, in the coming year, there will be one stock market holiday each in February, May, November, and December, two each in March and August, and three trading holidays in April and October 2025.
According to BSE and NSE, four stock market holidays will also fall on Saturdays / Sundays in 2025, which means the usual trading activity on the stock exchanges will remain suspended by default due to the weekends:
January 26, 2025 (Sunday): Republic Day
April 06, 2025 (Sunday): Shri Ram Navami
June 07, 2025 (Saturday): Bakri Id
July 06, 2025 (Sunday): Muharram.
On the designated stock market holidays, the Equity, Equity Derivative, and SLB Segments will not be active. This means trading will remain closed on domestic equity benchmarks BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 on market holidays.
Trading at Currency Derivatives Segments will remain suspended in the Indian stock market. Trading will also remain suspended in the commodity derivatives and electronic gold receipts (EGR) segments. This means there will be no action on MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) and the NCDEX (National Commodity Exchange) from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the market holidays.
