Stock Market Today LIVE: The key benchmark indices of the Indian stock market failed to sustain at higher levels, following a rebound in the US bond yields. The Nifty 50 index finished 95 points lower at 22,620, while the BSE Sensex ended 48 points lower at 72,480. The Bank Nifty index gained 373 points and closed at 54,633.

The US bond market is witnessing a strong bounce back after a sharp sell-off today. The US 10-year bond yield has pared early-morning losses and is currently down 0.60%. The 10-year bond yield was once around 1% lower during Wednesday's trading. Likewise, the US 30-year bond yield is down by around 0.55%, having once fallen to 0.90%.

Asian stocks advanced for the first time in three sessions as oil prices fell on signs of increased supply from the Middle East, while bonds remained in focus ahead of the crucial US inflation reading.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index rose 0.4% with stocks in Japan and South Korea gaining. The moves came after gains for a key gauge of US semiconductor shares, while President Donald Trump rejected regulations on artificial intelligence.

Crude oil price today

The moderation in oil prices, however, comes against a backdrop of continued uncertainty over the US-Iran conflict and the outlook for regional energy supplies. Signs of a recovery in crude production and improving supply flows have helped push prices lower, but the geopolitical situation remains fluid, leaving energy markets vulnerable to renewed volatility should tensions escalate or negotiations falter.

FII data

Foreign investor flows remain a significant headwind. Persistent foreign selling, alongside elevated US Treasury yields, could continue to limit the durability of any recovery in domestic equities.

The external backdrop is nevertheless somewhat more supportive this morning, with Asian equities trading higher and technology stocks leading gains. The stronger regional tone could provide an initial boost to risk appetite, although domestic markets are likely to remain sensitive to movements in crude oil, global yields and foreign flows.

Brokerages see weak October | Here's why

India's monthly equity derivatives expiry on Tuesday signalled a risk-off turn, marked by broad unwinding of bullish positions, a fresh buildup of shorts and heavier foreign investor selling as markets grapple with a global bond rout, brokerages said.

The benchmark Nifty 50 fell 6.7% during the September derivative series, making it the worst performer among Asian markets. The Bank Nifty declined 5.7%, contributing the most to losses in the benchmark.

The rollover data point to a cautious market heading into October. Bearish bets were not merely built during September's selloff, but also largely carried into the new series, according to three brokerages.

IIFL Capital sees scope for a bounce towards 23,300 as the Nifty approaches the 22,500 level. However, it cautioned that a sustained break below 22,400 could open the door to more losses.

Nuvama Alternative and Quantitative Research sees the benchmark between support at 22,350 and resistance at 23,400, despite favourable seasonal trends.

The September derivative series saw broad-based selling and heavy bearish bets by overseas investors, analysts at Ambit Capital said, as nearly half of stocks for which futures and options are available ended with long positions unwound and more than 40% saw a buildup of shorts.

With Nifty futures open interest steady, Bank Nifty rollovers above average and foreign investors increasing index-futures shorts, any near-term rebound is likely to face selling pressure, according to IIFL, Nuvama and Ambit. The only caveat analysts pointed to is that global sentiment may improve.

Most Asian stocks rise despite ongoing worries about the US-Iran war

Asian shares mostly rose in Wednesday trading, boosted by optimism about artificial intelligence and computer chips despite ongoing worries about the war in Iran.

Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 jumped 2.1% in afternoon trading to 66,882.34. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.1% to 8,806.40. South Korea's Kospi lost earlier gains to be down 0.1% at 6,861.30. Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.3% to 24,585.63, while the Shanghai Composite rose 0.5% to 3,847.55.

SoftBank Group Corp., which invests in OpenAI, surged more than 6% in Tokyo trading. Also gaining were Japanese chips-related stocks like Renesas Electronics and Rohm Co.

Stocks closed modestly lower on Wall Street Tuesday as another increase in long-term Treasury yields weighed on the market.

The S&P 500 slipped 0.2% after wavering between modest gains and losses for much of the day. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.3%, and the Nasdaq composite fell 0.1%.

Major indexes shifted lower after a quiet morning as rising bond yields undercut much of the heavy lifting being done by several technology behemoths. Nvidia, the market’s most influential stock, gave up an early gain and closed 0.7% lower. Broadcom rose 1.6%.

Oil prices are swinging sharply as the U.S. war with Iran drags on, helping to push Treasury yields to their highest levels in 24 years.

Benchmark U.S. crude added 0.1% to $89.47 a barrel. Brent crude, the international standard, edged up 0.49% to $103.09 a barrel. Brent is well above the roughly $72 it cost before the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran in late February.

Mediators continued to work with the United States and Iran on reaching a deal to end the fighting and open the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump over the weekend rejected an offer from Tehran to reopen the key waterway.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury rose to 5.25% from 5.24% late Monday. It reached 5.28% earlier Tuesday, touching its highest level since 2002, according to Tradeweb.

All told, the S&P 500 fell 12.85 points to 7,670.84. The Dow dropped 131.59 points to 51,349.92, and the Nasdaq gave up 22.84 points to close at 26,797.54.

Wall Street will see several big economic updates this week that could help investors and the Federal Reserve get a better sense of where inflation is headed.

U.S. inflation rates have remained stubbornly above 3% most of the year, well above the Fed's target rate of 2%. Wall Street expects the central bank to raise its benchmark interest rate again at its next meeting in October.

“While it is easy to focus on the macroeconomic headwinds of bond yields and oil, the underlying U.S. economy remains remarkably resilient,” said Tina Teng, market analyst at MooMoo, a global financial technology and online brokerage company.

In currency trading, the U.S. dollar declined to 156.93 Japanese yen from 157.27 yen. The euro cost $1.1344, down from $1.1347.

Brokerages see weak October as foreign investors ramp up shorts

The only caveat analysts pointed to is if global sentiment improves.

Nifty rollovers stood at 74%, in line with the three-month average, while Bank Nifty's 79% rollover was marginally above the average of 78%.

Nifty futures' open interest rose nearly 30% from the start of September, which IIFL says suggests "heavy shorts".

Foreign institutional investors' net index-futures shorts rose to about 267,000 contracts from 184,000 at the previous expiry, data from Nuvama showed. Overseas investors have sold $2.7 billion of Indian shares in the spot market, pointing to a broad-based selloff.

Domestic institutional buying cushioned some of that pressure as retail investors stayed long on stock futures, in a sharp divergence between foreign and domestic positioning, Nuvama said.

Japanese yen jumps for the sixth straight session

Yields on Treasury 30-year bonds rose for a sixth day on Tuesday as investors demanded greater compensation to hold the securities amid concerns about persistent inflation, higher government spending and a surge in corporate borrowing to finance the AI buildout.

Traders are ramping up bets that Treasury yields will keep climbing, raising the risk of an abrupt unwind of those positions on any sign of a marked economic cooling. Money markets are pricing a series of rate hikes over the next year.

US 10-year bond yield cools, US-Iran conflict in focus

The selloff in bonds can stop for one of the following reasons: a quick resolution of the US-Iran conflict, a material fall in stock prices driven by a slowdown in hard economic data, or lower earnings and forward guidance.

Stock market today Live: US bonds in focus

Bonds remained in focus after yields on the longest-maturity Treasuries reached their highest since 2002 in the New York session. Yields steadied across the curve after rising earlier this week, as a rally in oil prompted traders to price in further interest-rate hikes by the Federal Reserve.

Sensex, Nifty rebound following strong global cues | Bank Nifty extends gain

The key benchmark indices of the Indian stock market staged a bounce-back, following a rebound in Asian markets after further easing in crude oil prices. The Bank Nifty index is up over 500 points, whereas the Nifty 50 and Sensex are up by around 0.25%.

Asian stocks advanced for the first time in three sessions as oil prices fell on signs of increased supply from the Middle East, while bonds remained in focus ahead of the crucial US inflation reading.

Oil price rebounds after Trump denies he is willing to ease sanctions on Iran

Oil prices rose on Wednesday after US President Donald Trump denied he would be willing to ease sanctions on Iran while Qatar pushed for peace talks, after falling in the previous session on a recovery in crude supply from the Middle East.

The Brent futures November contract, which is expiring on Wednesday, rose 71 cents, or 0.69%, to $103.30 a barrel by 0408 GMT. The more active December contract rose 35 cents to $96.51. US West Texas Intermediate crude gained 43 cents, or 0.48%, to $89.81.

Brent is headed for a monthly gain of around 14%, its biggest climb since July, while WTI is on track for a 4% rise after having breached $106 for the first time since May.

The spread between the two benchmarks this month also expanded to its widest in four months as traders watched potential plans by the US to restrict diesel exports, which could create an oversupply in the domestic market and lead US refiners to process less crude.

US President Donald Trump is considering allowing sales of red-dyed diesel, instead of an export ban, to offer some price relief to consumers as the November midterm elections loom.

Stock market today Live: Top 3 developments from the US markets

US stocks closed marginally lower on Tuesday as Treasury yields continued to rise ahead of key inflation and labour-market data. Investors also assessed recent remarks from Federal Reserve officials for clues on the central bank’s future interest-rate trajectory.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 131.59 points, or 0.26%, to end at 51,349.92. The S&P 500 slipped 12.85 points, or 0.17%, to 7,670.84, while the Nasdaq Composite edged down 22.84 points, or 0.08%, to 26,797.54.

Here we list out the top 3 developments in the US markets, which may dictate the Indian stock market today:

US Treasury yields

The sharp rise in US Treasury yields is one of the biggest global-market headwinds for Indian equities. The 10-year US Treasury yield climbed to 5.278% on Tuesday, while the 30-year yield reached its highest level since June 2002.

AI stocks

The second major development is the continued strength of AI-related stocks. On Tuesday, gains in AI-linked technology shares helped offset the negative impact of rising Treasury yields on the broader US market. Optimism around Anthropic's potential public debut supported technology stocks.

The company is aiming for a valuation of more than $2 trillion, a milestone that could potentially set a new benchmark for how Wall Street values leading AI companies.

Meta shares rose 3.3% despite OpenAI introducing its always-on AI agents, called dots, which can independently pursue users’ goals across multiple applications. The new offering is viewed as a rival to Meta’s recently launched Muse.

Crude oil prices

The third major development is the continued uncertainty around crude oil prices and its implications for US inflation and interest rates.

Stock market today Live: Outlook for Sensex today

For the near term, the Sensex continues to maintain a sideways-to-bearish structure, with the 72,000–72,200 zone crucial for limiting further downside. Holding this support could lead to a recovery towards 72,700–73,000, while a decisive break below 72,000 may extend the prevailing weakness. Traders should closely monitor the 72,000 Put and 73,000 Call OI concentrations along with price action for confirmation of the next directional move.

Stock market today Live: Nifty 50 outlook that you must know

Nifty witnessed a weak opening session to continue with the slide further to touch the 22600 zone with bias maintained with a very cautious approach and amid some volatility closed near the 22700 level with anxious sentiment anticipated for the coming sessions. The index would have the psychological and important support zone of 22000 level which needs to be sustained failing which the overall trend would turn weak. As mentioned earlier, to improve the bias from current rate, the index would need a decisive breach above the 23100 zone to establish conviction and clarity.

Stock market today Live: What US 10-year bond yield signals?

In the early morning trade, the US 10-year bond yield has slipped by half a percent to around 5.25%. This means there can be some upside in the key benchmark indices of the Indian stock market. However, this should be taken as a relief rally, not a bounce back from the recent lower levels.
