Tata Motors share price opened lower at ₹322.85 apiece on Thursday, as against its previous close of ₹327.65 apiece on the BSE. The stock closed 2.26% at ₹320.25 apiece on the BSE.
On Wednesday, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicle arm shares were listed at ₹335 apiece on NSE, a premium of 28.48% to its implied value of ₹260.75 per share. On BSE, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicle shares got listed at ₹330.25 apiece, a premium of 26.09% to its earlier value of ₹261.90 per share.
Tata Motors demerger took effect from October 1, 2025, and the Tata Motors demerger record date was October 14, 2025. Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles arm listing date is November 12.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV) shares began trading as a standalone entity on October 14, valued at around ₹400 per share post record-date adjustment. Based on the pre-demerger closing price of ₹660.75, the implied residual value of the Tata Motors commercial vehicle arm was estimated between ₹260 and ₹270 per share.

The cost of acquisition for TMCV shares works out to ₹205.59 based on the record-date price of the consolidated Tata Motors, while the stock is currently trading around ₹325, reflecting an appreciation of about 58% on cost price. For example, if 1,000 Ordinary Shares of Tata Motors were purchased at ₹400 per share by a shareholder, the total cost of acquisition would amount to ₹4,00,000 before the Demerger. Based on the Share Entitlement Ratio, 1000 shares of TMLCVL would be allotted to the said shareholder. The total cost of acquisition of ₹4,00,000 would be apportioned in the aforesaid ratio - ₹1,24,600 (31.15% of ₹4,00,000) being the total cost of acquisition of 1,000 Resulting Company shares and ₹2,75,400 (4,00,000 less ₹1,24,600) being the total cost of acquisition of 1000 original shares of Demerged Company.
