Sensex and Nifty 50 flirt near lifetime highs, boosted by decent Q4 earnings, foreign funds flow, and expectations of normal monsoon and robust GDP growth. Auto stocks led gains, while consumer durables and metal stocks lagged.

Indian market recorded an eventful trading on Tuesday with Sensex and Nifty 50 continuing to flirt near their lifetime highs. Decent Q4 earnings, consistent foreign funds flow, and expectations of normal monsoon, coupled with hopes of robust growth in GDP data and global trends dictated the upside in domestic equities. Sensex is near the psychological 63,000 mark and Nifty 50 stretched as far as over 18,660 levels.
After hitting an intraday high of 63,036.12, Sensex closed at 62,969.13 up by 122.75 points or 0.20%. Nifty 50 too ended near its day's high of 18,662.45, to 18,633.85 up by 35.20 points or 0.19%.
Auto stocks were the top gainers, while consumer durables and metal stocks were the top laggards.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services said, "The domestic market continued its rally as recent Q4 results indicated improvement in demand. Further, expectations of a normal monsoon and a drop in international commodity prices support a rise in the margin profile. The underlying trend is strong, supported by strong liquidity, the negative slope of the interest yield, and the forecast of strong QoQ growth in Q4 FY23 GDP vs. 4.4% in Q3."
