Indian markets continue to witness selling pressure on Thursday with Sensex erasing 62,500 and Nifty 50 dropping below 18,500. Banking stocks remained under pressure, dragging the benchmarks the most. While smallcap stocks outperformed.

Indian markets extended their selling bias for second day straight on Thursday with Sensex pulling away from 62500 level and Nift 50 tumbling below 18,500. Banking stocks witnessed most selloff, on the contrary, smallcap stocks outperformed counterparts. Auto, capital goods and IT stocks witnessed upside as well. Investors traded cautiously in global cues on expectations of inflationary pressure in the US after raising debt ceiling.

Sensex ended at 62,428.54, down by 193.70 points or 0.31%. Nifty 50 closed at 18,487.75, lower by 46.65 points or 0.25%.

Bank Nifty slipped by 337.95 points or 0.77% to end at 43,790.20. Meanwhile, BSE Bankex shed 412.30 points or 0.82%. On the other hand, BSE Smallcap index climbed nearly 187 points, the best performing index of the day.

On June 1st, there were more stocks that advanced than declined.

A total of 2,030 stocks advanced, while 1,513 stocks declined and remaining 118 stocks are unchanged. Meanwhile, 179 stocks touched their fresh 52-week high, while 38 stocks have clocked new 52-week low.

Sensex:

Top gainers: Tata Motors (+1,67%), Hindustan Unilever (+1.39%), Asian Paints (+1.32%), Sun Pharma (+1.12%), TCS (+0.98%).

Top losers: Bharti Airtel (-3.42%), Kotak Bank (-3.31%), ICICI Bank (-1.31%), ITC (-1.24%), and Reliance Industries (-0.51%).

Nifty 50:

Top gainers: Apollo Hospital (+4.35%), Divi's Lab (+2.55%), Bajaj Auto (+1.63%), and Tata Motors (+1.53%).

Top losers: Coal India (-4.66%), Kotak Bank (-4.24%), Bharti Airtel (-2.71%), SBI Life (-2.02%), and HDFC Life (-1.92%).

BSE:

Top gainers: Indo Count Industries (+10.05), EPL (+10.01%), South Indian Bank (+9.57%), UTI S&P BSE Sensex ETF (+8.53%), and Westlife Foodworld (+7.59%).

Top losers: Suzlon Energy (-5.03%), ABB (-4.14%), Aegis Logistics (-4.56%), Torrent Pharma (-3.75%), and Bajaj Holding (-4.25%).

NSE:

Top gainers: Silgo Retail, Hardwyn India, and Nureca touched 20% upper circuit.Kaushalya Infrastructure (+19.79%), and Beardsell (+19.60%).

Top losers: Godha Cab (-50%), Trejhara Solutions (-10.01%), Praxis Home Retail (-8.76%), Setubandhan Infrastructure (-6.25%), and Mahalaxmi Rubtech (-5.75%).

Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services said, "despite challenges in the global economies, the domestic market displayed better than estimated Q4 earnings growth, along with 7.2% GDP growth in FY23, adding buoyancy to the market during the week. However, today the market closed with a marginal negative bias in which banks witnessed heavy profit booking. Investors turned cautious in anticipation of inflationary pressure in the US after raising the US debt ceiling."

Nair added, "The US 10-year bond yield inched higher; the market is looking ahead to the trajectory of US interest rates to get more visibility."
