Pompei: Below the Clouds
Gianfranco Rosi is one of the greatest documentary filmmakers working today. His 2025 feature Below the Clouds, shot in black and white, looks at the lives of residents of Naples. It won the Special Jury Prize at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival. (MUBI)
Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos
Vir Das directs and stars in this silly, sweet comedy co-written with Amogh Ranadive and co-directed with Kavi Shastri. Happy Patel (Das) is a bumbling British secret agent sent to Goa to infiltrate a drug empire run by Mama (Mona Singh). The film, which released in theatres in January, has considerable charm and jokes to spare. Das’s standup instincts sometimes take precedence over his duties as film writer and director, but there’s still a lot to enjoy, not least the cous cous song, which plays like a parody of the Dhurandhar rap track.
