In Nagaland, the beginning of December is marked by a flurry of activity for the Hornbill Festival, an event that showcases the state’s culture through folk dances, traditional music, local food, fun competitions (think competitive Bhut jolokia consumption) and craft workshops highlighting textiles, jewellery and recipes. Last year, Grammy Award winner A.R. Rahman had performed there. This year, if it hadn’t been for the pandemic, a grand event would have been organised to celebrate 20 years of the festival. Instead, the event will be streamed live on the festival’s pages on their social media pages. —JB
