In Your City | Kala Ghoda Arts Festival turns 20

For 20 years, the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival (KGAF) has offered patrons a chance to soak up some culture in one of the most agreeable Mumbai neighbourhoods. This year, it’s celebrating its legacy and Mahatma Gandhi’s 150 birth anniversary. The 2019 edition’s biggest headliner is Hariprasad Chaurasia. The flautist will perform with students from Vrindaban Gurukul at Cross Maidan. If you’re looking for a different kind of musical veteran, DJ-singer Apache Indian will bring his reggae stylings to the Asiatic Library steps.

To mark the festival’s two decades, there will be 20 readings at various venues, and the release of the “People Place Project" volume on 20 years of Kala Ghoda by architect-artist Nisha Nair Gupta. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, part of the Supreme Court bench that decriminalized same-sex relations, will discuss Section 377 and the Constitution with Jayna Kothari.

Avijit Mukul Kishore brings his keen eye, both as co-director and cinematographer, to profiling artist Kausik Mukhopadhyay, who works with discarded everyday objects, in Squeeze Lime In Your Eye. There’s a lot more, including walks, lectures and workshops, food, art, theatre and stand-up comedy.
