Get resortwear right, ‘The White Lotus’ style
HBO’s hit show may be a scathing examination of white privilege, but that doesn’t stop us from drooling over its aesthetic
The first taste of the White Lotus aesthetic comes during the opening credits, when one gorgeous tropical-theme wallpaper follows the other, all palms and hibiscus flowers and seascapes printed on rich, creamy paper—and soon turning into more sinister and provocative imagery involving sleeping leopards and coiled snakes and a fish caught in the tentacles of an octupus.
The show might be an intensely discomfiting look at white privilege, but it is also a visual delight, not only because of the stunning Hawaiian location but the on-point outfits and accessories that define the rich guests of the upscale resort in which the show is set.
