Bihar: Uniform fee of ₹100 for prelims of all recruitment exams approved by Nitish Kumar cabinet ahead of polls

CM Nitish Kumar emphasised his administration's commitment to youth employment, approving a uniform fee of 100 for preliminary exams and waiving fees for successful candidates in mains exams. This initiative aims to support youth and comes ahead of upcoming assembly elections.

The Nitish Kumar-led cabinet on 19 August approved the proposal of a uniform fee of 100 for the preliminary exams of all recruitment drives in the state; however, candidates who pass the preliminary examinations and proceed to the main exams will not be required to pay any fees, according to an official.

The proposal put forward by the General Administration Department (GAD) received approval during a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

This move holds particular importance as the state prepares for assembly elections scheduled for later this year. CM Nitish had shared the government's plan on this matter via social media just last week.

"I am pleased to announce that a decision has been made to bring uniformity in the fees for preliminary tests (PT) of competitive examinations conducted by all commissions for state-level government jobs, and to provide significant fee concessions to candidates," CM Nitish said last week.

He added, “Instructions have been given to charge only Rs100 as the fee for candidates appearing in the preliminary test of the competitive examinations. Candidates who clear the preliminary tests and appear for the mains examinations will no longer have to pay any examination fee."

CM Nitish stated offering government employment opportunities to the youth of the state had been the priority for his administration from the very beginning.

"To provide opportunities to the youth of the state and to secure their future, our government has taken several concrete steps. Now, we have taken this decision in the interest of the youth," he asserted.

It applies to exams held by different recruitment bodies, comprising the Bihar Public Service Commission, Bihar Technical Service Commission, Bihar Staff Selection Commission, Bihar Police Subordinate Service Commission, and the Central Constable Selection Board.
