Anil Tiger, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former zila parishad member, was shot dead in broad daylight in Jharkhand's capital Ranchi on Wednesday, March 26. Anil Tiger was also Ranchi rural district general secretary of the BJP.
The incident happened early morning on Wednesday. Anil Tiger was gunned down by some motorbike-borne gunmen at Kanke Chowk in Ranchi.
In protest against the murder, the BJP and AJSU Party have called for a Ranchi bandh on Thursday, March 27.
Police have arrested an accused in the case after chasing him for some time.
In a statement, SSP Ranchi said, “An accused in the murder of BJP leader Anil Tiger has been arrested after an encounter. He has been shot in the thigh. After being identified, police teams started chasing him.”
“On seeing the police team, he opened fire. In retaliation, the police shot him and arrested him. The investigation is ongoing,” the statement further read.
BJP state president Babulal Marandi demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, alleging that the law and order situation has collapsed in the state under the JMM government.
“I am shocked by the news of BJP Ranchi rural district general secretary and former Zila Parishad member Anil Tiger ji being shot by criminals. Criminals are fearlessly attacking public representatives. The law and order situation in the state has completely collapsed, where neither public representatives nor common citizens are safe,” Babulal Marandi posted on X.
BJP MLA Navin Jaiswal said, “Since their government has been formed in Jharkhand, the criminal activities have increased. The police administration has failed as they are busy looting the lands and coal and are unable to maintain law and order...Hemant Soren should tender his resignation from the post of chief minister.”
Congress leader Suresh Kumar Baitha expressed his condolences on the murder of Anil Tiger. He said, “He was a very close friend of mine. I am deeply hurt by the incident. I express my deepest condolences to the family members. Action should be taken against those responsible for the incident.”
