Delhi weather alert today: With a cold wave warning looming across North India, the weather department has predicted dense fog in the national capital.
According to the Regional Weather Forecasting Unit (RWFC) in Delhi, smog and moderate to dense fog are expected in the morning, with a partly cloudy sky. Smog or light fog is predicted- for the evening. The minimum temperature is forecasted to be 6 degrees Celsius, while the maximum will be around 24 degrees Celsius.
Earlier on Tuesday, the IMD recorded 8 degrees Celsius temperature in Delhi at 2.30 am.
Moreover, the India Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave warning in certain parts of north India, including Jammy and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and more.
Delhi's air quality plummeted to alarming levels on Wednesday despite the strictest measures, including a ban on construction activities and truck entry into the city, coming into force.
According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the city's 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the 'severe' category, with a reading of 481 at 8 AM on Wednesday.
The air quality in the national capital began worsening on Tuesday after 24 days as several areas witnessed a significant spike in pollution. Before Tuesday's AQI at 433, the last time Delhi's air quality was recorded in the 'severe' category was on November 23, with a reading of 412.
Delhi-NCR schools on Tuesday switched to the hybrid mode of conducting classes following the re-imposition of anti-pollution measures under the Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
According to the revised GRAP schedule, classes for students in grades VI-IX and XI in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar must operate in hybrid mode (physical and online) under Stage 4. However, students of class X and XII have to attend school in-person.
