Delhi Court extends Manish Sisodia's judicial custody till July 15 in Excise Policy case

Delhi court on Saturday, July 7, extended the judicial custody of former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, until July 15 in the CBI case in connection with the Excise Policy scam.

Delhi court on Saturday, July 7, extended the judicial custody of former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, until July 15 in the CBI case in connection with the Excise Policy scam.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja extended the judicial custody via video conference as the custody granted earlier had expired. The former deputy chief minister, and AAP leader was produced in the Rouse Avenue court today, reported the ANI.

On July 3, Delhi’s Rouse court had directed the Enforcement Directorate to provide with copies of supplementary chargesheets and documents within two days to the accused peole, reported the ANI.

The court had further granted 10 days to the counsel representing Sisodia. To inspect the documents. Thereafter, information about deficient documents was to be given.

In May 2024, the Delhi High court had rejected the bail plea of Manish Sisodia. Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma, who was hearing the matter, held the view that the accused minister had not been able to cut out a case for grant of bail.“The case at hand is a grave misuse of power and breach of public trust by the applicant who was serving as Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi at the relevant point,” said the court, reported The Hindu.

The judge further stated that Sisodia was allegedly involved in the destruction of crucial evidence, which also included electronic evidence.The fact that Manish Sisodia was a very powerful and influential minister, hence his hand at destroying evidence could not be ruled out, said the court, according to The Hindu.

Earlier, the court had granted bail to three others who had been accused along with Manish Sisodia - Prince, Damodar and Arvind Singh.
