Rajasthan: Nearly two dozen people were injured, and two others were severely injured after a bus travelling to Jaipur overturned on the Delhi-Mumbai Express Highway near Dausa on Wednesday. The accident occurred after the driver fell asleep, Dr Mahendra Meena, Duty Officer, District Hospital Dausa, told ANI.
After the accident, the injured passengers were immediately taken to the nearest hospital. The bus was coming from Haridwar to Jaipur. Severely injured passengers have been referred to Jaipur for further treatment.
“Around two dozen people were injured and 2 others seriously injured after a bus coming from Haridwar to Jaipur overturned on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The driver of the bus fell asleep. The seriously injured people have been referred to Jaipur. The incident occurred near point number 165 of the expressway,” said Dr Mahendra Meena, Duty Officer, District Hospital Dausa.
The accident happened when the speeding bus hit a divider and overturned on the highway on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 6 am near channel number 165 of the express highway, close to Peechupara village.
Soon after the accident, local residents and people from nearby villages started gathering at the scene. Later, the ambulance was called and injured passengers were rushed to hospital with the help of local residents.
Two individuals who were seriously injured were referred to Jaipur for better medical care, while others were admitted to the district hospital in Dausa, receiving primary treatment and some were discharged.
The bus was carrying pilgrims and was returning to Jaipur from Haridwar. According to news agency ANI, the accident took place because the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
One of the travellers, Govind Soni, hailing from Bassi, said, “I had to deboard the bus in Dausa, but since the driver fell asleep, the bus overturned and the accident occurred at around 5.30 - 6.00 am. We had gone to Haridwar on the same bus and were returning when the accident happened.” Another traveller, Chandra, from Jaipur, stated that they slept when the accident occurred. They didn't have time to react.
