Delhi, NCR Air Pollution Highlights: Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the Odd-Even scheme in Delhi from Nov 13-Nov 20 to curb pollution.

Delhi, NCR Air Pollution Highlights: Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the Odd-Even scheme in Delhi from Nov 13-Nov 20 to curb pollution.

The overall air quality in Delhi continued to remain in the 'critical' category on Monday morning, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR)-India.

Pollution levels in Delhi have remained in the ‘critical’ category for the past few days recording AQI in the ‘400’ range at several locations in and around Delhi.

On Monday morning overall average AQI of 471 was recorded, as per SAFAR.

Under the final stage of the pollution control plan, the state government announced a ‘work from home’ policy for 50% of government staff till the next orders.

According to data Data from the Central Pollution Control Board showed Delhi's air quality index increased by over 200 points since October 27. The worst air quality was recorded on November 3 since the previous high of 471 was recorded on November 12, 2021, which has since been improving with relatively better wind speed. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai addressed a letter to Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav urging that only CNG, electric and BS VI-compliant vehicles be permitted in Delhi-NCR in view of the worsening air quality ahead of Diwali and expectations of further deterioration.

Farm fires reduced in Punjab, Haryana from last year

Punjab witnessed highest single day number of farm fires of the season on Sunday.  With the 3,230 fresh farm fires, the total number of stubble burning incidents in Punjab so far this season stands at 17,403, according to Punjab Remote Sensing Centre data.

However, the number of stubble burning declined during the period from September 15 to November 5 to last year. There has been a 41 per cent drop in farm fires cases during the period from last year.

What is GRAP Stage 4?

 The eight-point action plan under stage 4 of GRAP includes banning the entry of trucks in Delhi except for LNG/CNG trucks and those involved in essential services. It also includes restricting  the entry of Delhi-registered diesel operated Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs) and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) in the national capital, except those involved in essential services.

Punjab witnesses highest farm fires in a day

Punjab reported its highest ever single day hike in farm fires on Sunday. The state reported 3,230 farm fires, the highest in a day so far this season, while the air quality in large parts of Haryana was recorded in 'very poor' and 'severe' categories.

Farm fires reported in November constitute 56 per cent of the total stubble burning incidents this season, the data showed.
