The first flight carrying Indian nationals, who were evacuated from violence-hit Sudan has landed in Delhi. The evacuees who landed in Delhi from the African country chanted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘PM Narendra Modi zindabad’ slogans upon their arrival. The flight was carrying a total of 360 Indians.
The Indian nationals were evacuated from Sudan on a Saudi Arabian flight. The evacuation was carried out by the kingdom's naval forces with the support of other branches of the Army. Today, the Indian nationals landed in Delhi from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The New Delhi-bound flight with 360 Indians onboard left Jeddah Airport earlier today. The Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan saw them off at the Jeddah Airport.
“Happy to see off 360 Indians at Jeddah Airport in a flight bound for New Delhi They will be reaching the motherland soon, reuniting with their families Under #OperationKaveri the Government is working relentlessly to evacuate Indian nationals from Sudan & bring them home safely,” MoS Muraleedharan tweeted.
Clashes broke out between the forces loyal to Sudanese Army General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and those of his deputy-turned-rival Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the powerful paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), leaving hundreds dead and thousands wounded.
An Indian, Surendra Singh Yadav, who landed in Delhi today praised the Centre for “fast evacuation”. He said, “I went there [Sudan] for an IT project and got stuck there. The embassy and the government also helped a lot. Around 1000 people are present in Jeddah. The government is doing fast evacuation.”
"The Indian government has supported us a lot. It's a big thing that we reached here safely as it was very dangerous. I thank PM Modi and the Indian government," another Indian national said.
Meanwhile, private carriers such as IndiGo have extended their willingness to help. India's low-cost carrier Indigo has offered its services to the government regarding evacuation under Operation Kaveri.
