The IMD has reported favourable conditions for the southwest monsoon's advance into Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, and parts of Punjab and Haryana in the next two days, likely arriving in Delhi on June 24, offering relief from heatwaves in several states.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that conditions are becoming favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon over remaining parts of Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and some other parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh over the next four days.

Consequently, monsoon is likely to hit Delhi on June 24.

Delhi monsoon will be preceded by the further advancement of southwest monsoon over remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, some more parts of Rajasthan, remaining parts of West Uttar Pradesh — over the next two days — bringing the much needed relief from the heatwave conditions that have persisted in some of the regions.

IMD forecast for monsoon

As per the weather observatory's latest forecast, here's when monsoon is expected to hit the following regions:

IMD rainfall forecast

Apart from the advancement of southwest monsoon, the weather observatory has also predicted extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over northwest Madhya Pradesh on June 23.

Meanwhile, isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over the following regions, stated the IMD:

  • Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim – June 20-22
  • Madhya Pradesh – June 20-25

Orange alert in Himachal Pradesh; 4 swept away in Chhattisgarh

Following the heavy rains and landslide in Himachal Pradesh, the local Met office on Friday issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places of the state on June 22, 23, 25 and 26.

Traffic on the Dharmshala-Chataro-Gaggal road was halted due to the landslide with water logging reported at Shahid Inder Singh Middle School in Pandoh.

Earlier in the day, in Chhattisgarh — four persons, among them two children — were swept away in the strong currents of a swollen river in district and are feared drowned, officials told PTI.

The victims, Somari (45), Ankita (8), Binawati Nagvanshi (30) and her son Aaryas (3), all residents of Dodhagaon village under Kerju police chowki, had gone to collect mushrooms on the banks of the Maini River.
