In a major upgrade for Mumbai, Union Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced as many as 238 new AC trains for the city suburban network. Not just this, Mumbaikars will also soon get ‘MUMBAI-1’ travel card to be used in all public transportation in the Mumbai region.

Addressing a press conference, Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “238 new AC trains to be sanctioned for Mumbai suburban network,” and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis annouced, “'MUMBAI-1' single card system for all public transportation in Mumbai region to be launched soon.”

Ashwini Vaishnaw also announced that PM Modi has also approved the doubling of the 240 km Gondia-Balharshah railway line in Maharashtra at a cost of 4,819 crores. “With the doubling of Ballarshah and Gondia, we will get a corridor for north to south's movement. With this, the aspirational district, like Vidharba and Marathawada, will be impacted as they will be connected,” the Union Minister added.

He further informed that more than 1 lakh 70 thousand crores have been sanctioned for projects connected to Maharashtra during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third term.

“This project will play a pivotal role in enhancing passenger and freight connectivity between northern and southern India... Aspirational districts in the region will witness rapid development... Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Maharashtra has received unprecedented support for railway infrastructure... Maharashtra has been given railway projects worth Rs. 1.73 lakh crore, including the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train and the dedicated freight corridor. In the current fiscal year alone, the state has been allotted more than Rs. 23,000 crore,” he said.
