Himachal rains: Bus, hotel swept away by flood water in Manali; CM issues helpline numbers. Details here

Himachal rain updates: Himachal Pradesh hit by landslides, flash floods due to heavy rains. Roads blocked, people stranded. Red alert issued for heavy rainfall. Bridges washed away. Trains cancelled.

Himachal rain updates: Himachal Pradesh have been witnessing landslides, flashfloods due to heavy rains. The landslides have blocked several roads, leaving people stranded. The rising water levels in the Beas River caused landslides and flash floods in various districts, leading to tragic loss of lives.

IMD predicted moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in various districts of Himachal Pradesh for today. As per IMD, “Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is very likely to continue in the districts of Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Una, Hamirpur, Mandi and Kullu in most places and very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places." However, Himachal Pradesh (HP) Traffic, Tourist and Railways Police took to twitter and issued a red alert for various parts of the state. In a tweet, it wrote, "The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for most districts of the state today, which means there is a "very high risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall". So you avoid unnecessary travel. Stay away from rivers and landslide areas. Please follow the instructions issued by the local administration." 

Cloud burst in Mandi, Solan:

Cloudburst in Solan and Mandi cause flash floods. A cloud burst in Solan triggered landslide in Chewa village while cloud burst in Thunag caused flash floods.

Bus, Hotel swept away in Manali

Videos have been circulating on social media wherein a bus swept away in the flood water in Manali. Another video showed a hotel in Manali Aallu being swept away. As per NHAI, flood situation in Beas River has further worsened and water level has increased near Kullu-Manali section of NH and there is further forecast of heavy rains in the area.

Helpline numbers issued

CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu urged people to stay indoors as heavy rainfall alert has been issed. Moreover, helpline number have also been issued in case of any emergency.

Shimla-Kalka trains canceled:

Due to ongoing heavy rains, railways has cancelled all up & down trains between Shimla-Kalka on 10 and 11 July. The heavy rains have caused subsequent slides, water logging, debris on the railway track.

Bridges collapse, record breaking rainfall in Himachal Pradesh

On Sunday, the Panchvaktra bridge in Mandi collapsed due to the increased water level in the river. Additional District Magistrate, Mandi, Ashwani Kumar said that the historical bridge washed away as the river's water level increased.

Prior to that, bridges connecting Aut village to Banjar, and of Pandoh village were swept away by the overflowing Beas river in Mandi district. Taking note of the incident, former state Chief Minister Jairam Thakur said that the washed-away bridges were the "identity of Himachal". A portion of National Highway 3 has been washed away by the overflowing Beas River in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.

On Sunday, Solan received 135 mm of rain breaking a 50-year-old record of 105 mm of rain in a day in 1971, while Una received the highest rainfall after 1993, Director Local MeT office Shimla, Surender Paul told PTI.
