Narkanda, a picturesque hill destination in the state, has become the preferred choice for tourists looking to escape crowded locations. Visitors from Delhi, seeking respite from the scorching heat and bustling city life, have expressed their delight in choosing Narkanda for its pleasant atmosphere, lower temperatures, and overall enjoyable and relaxing environment. Suresh, a tourist from Delhi, highlighted the pure air and the beauty of Narkanda, stating that it was the ideal place to spend their holidays.
Travelers are opting to stay in the outskirts rather than crowded places like Shimla. Hotels and travel businesses are experiencing high demand, with advance bookings pouring in for June and July.
Manager Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Suresh Manager said, “This June in comparison to the last June we have tourist arrival more than the previous year, we have tourists coming in from West Bengal, Gurugram, Delhi, Chandigarh and Mumbai also. Due to natural beauty, tourists prefer the hills away from cities. We have advance bookings coming in, we have trekking activities and have the Hatu temple and Tanuja areas. We have special discount offers to give regards to the senior citizens.”
Anita, another tourist from Delhi, echoed the sentiment, describing Narkanda as a beautiful place devoid of rush and offering cleanliness rarely found in other tourist spots. She encouraged others to visit the hills during the summer season, emphasizing the pleasant weather compared to the sweltering heat of Delhi.
Himachal Pradesh has long been a popular destination for tourists, attracting a significant number of visitors each year. According to tourism department of Himachal Pradesh data for 2019, nearly 1.72 million tourists, including 400,000 foreign visitors, explored the state—a notable increase of approximately 5 percent compared to 2018.
In 2021, a total of 5,637,102 tourists visited India, with Himachal Pradesh witnessing a considerable influx. As of now, the state has already welcomed around 80 lakh tourists this year. The tourism sector plays a crucial role in Himachal Pradesh's economy, generating revenue exceeding INR 110 billion. It is considered a backbone for the state's economy, contributing 7.3 percent to its GDP.
