’Wuhan spirit’ has given new momentum to India-China ties: PM Modi

NEW DELHI: The “Wuhan spirit” have given a new momentum and fostered trust between India and China, prime minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday adding that he hoped the second informal summit between India and China in Chennai would open a new chapter in bilateral ties.
Referring to the first informal summit in the Chinese city of Wuhan in April last year, Modi said that meeting between him and Chinese president Xi Jinping had brought “fresh momentum” in ties and boosted “strategic communication.”
Modi made these remarks ahead of delegation level talks between him and Xi at the second informal summit in Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
Xi arrived in Chennai on Friday and later drove down to Mamallapuram where the two leaders spent about five hours in discussions and a dinner which extended beyond schedule. Ways to narrow trade gap between India and China, and eradicate terrorism with an agreement to join hands to fight radicalisation were some of the highlights of the discussions on Friday.
The meeting in Mamallapuram is the third between the two leaders since Modi’s re-election as prime minister in May and the sixth since Modi and Xi sat down for their first informal summit in Wuhan in April 2018.
