The Supreme Court on Saturday paved the way for the construction of a Ram Temple by a Trust at the disputed site at Ayodhya, and directed the Centre to allot an alternative 5-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque at a "prominent" place in the holy town in Uttar Pradesh.
Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Modi said the verdict is the "most balanced decision".
"The judgment of the Supreme Court on Ayodhya dispute is the most balanced decision because it has respected the feelings of both Hindus and Muslims. The Supreme Court has said a temple as well as a mosque should be built. Muslims should come forward to build the Ram Temple and Hindus should participate in building the Mosque. This will be the beginning of a new era and the centuries-old dispute has been resolved by the Supreme Court for once and all," he said.
"What makes the judgment unique is that it is an unanimous decision. Before this, the judgment of the Allahabad High Court was a 2:1 verdict. On such a sensitive issue, if there is an unanimous decision, there should not be any ifs and buts on it. We should all welcome the verdict.
"By and large, most political parties and communities have accepted the judgment. Muslims are also happy because the so called mosque will also be built in the same city. Everybody in Bihar including RJD, Congress and the Muslim leaders have welcomed the decision. There will always be some disgruntled people. Otherwise, if somebody is not happy, he has the right to take legal recourse available. We should not spin new ideas and should not bring up new issues.
"I appeal to the media to show restraint and not to highlight non-issues. There is a cordial atmosphere which is prevailing all over the country. A new era of peace and brotherhood for both Hindus and Muslims has heralded. We should welcome that. Peace should be maintained and no procession, dharna or protest should be organized anywhere in the country."
