Since it was a late night order no Union home ministry official was available for comment
Altogether, there will be an addition of 10,000 troops on the ground
In a late night order on Friday, the Union home ministry ordered the deployment of 100 additional companies of paramilitary forces in Jammu and Kashmir, sparking panic in the Valley.
The order, accessed by Mint, states that 50 additional companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be deployed, while nine companies of the CRPF will be moved from the National Capital to the Valley.
The other troop deployment will happen through the Border Security Force (BSF), the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
While Jammu and Kashmir already has a deployment of 40,000 paramilitary personnel, the additional 100 companies will mean the addition of 10,000 troops on the ground.
Due to the timing of the order, no Union home ministry official was available for comment. However, president of the J&K Peoples Movement, Shah Faesal said on Twitter, "This MHA communique regarding deployment of additional 100 Coys of CAPF is fueling huge anxiety in Kashmir. No one knows why this sudden mobilization of forces is being done. Rumor is that something sinister is about to happen. Article 35A?"
