NEW DELHI :
If the running cost of a car is taken into account, then driving a CNG-fuelled car is now cheaper by 56% in Delhi as compared to diesel-driven cars while over 33% for diesel-run cars. Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), which supplies CNG in Delhi, has reduced the prices of the automobile fuel with effect from October 3.
IGL said following the price cut, CNG would offer over 56% savings towards the running cost when compared to petrol-driven vehicles at the current level of prices. When compared to diesel driven vehicles, the economics in favour of CNG at revised price would be over 33 per cent, it said.
Following a 12.5% reduction in input natural gas rates, CNG is now cheaper by ₹1.90 per kg in Delhi and by ₹2.15 per kg in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad.
Retail price of CNG is now ₹45.20 per kg in Delhi and ₹51.35 per kg in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad. In Gurugram (Gurgaon), CNG users are charged at the rate of ₹58.45 per kg.
The price of petrol and diesel, on the other hand, has swelled by less than ₹2 per litre if the last 30 days are taken into account.
IGL is also offering special discount to its CNG customers from midnight to 6 am when the fuel will be sold at a Re 1 discount at select CNG outlets in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad.
The price of CNG in Delhi continues to remain the lowest in the entire country.
To promote cashless transactions and push CNG refuelling during off-peak hours, IGL has introduced a special cashback scheme of ₹0.50 per kg for CNG fuelling done only at IGL CNG stations through IGL Smart Cards between 11 am to 4 pm and 12 am to 6 am.
"The revision in retail price of CNG has been effected after taking into account the overall impact on the cost as a result of the reduction in prices of domestically produced natural gas notified by the government," IGL said in a statement.
