In a shocking incident, a man in Andhra Pradesh drowned his own kids in water-filled buckets due to poor academic performance, before hanging himself to death from a ceiling fan in his bedroom, on Friday.
The deceased man, identified as Vanapalli Chandra Kishore, was working as an assistant accountant at ONGC in Vakalapudi.
The incident took place at Bhudevi Apartments in Thota Subbarao Nagar in Kakinada district while his family members were celebrating Holi at his workplace.
Kishore, who hails from Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district, had recently relocated to Kakinada with his wife Tanuja and their two sons — Joshil (7) and Nikhil (6).
"Kishore killed his sons due to their poor academic performance, fearing they would struggle and suffer in a competitive world if they did not excel in their studies. Unable to bear this thought, he took the extreme step," reported PTI quoting official.
Kishore reportedly told his wife that he was taking children to a tailor for getting school uniforms and left the Holi celebrations. However, when he did not return, wife Tanuja grew suspicious. Upon reaching home, she was shocked to find Kishore hanging and kids in buckets.
DSP Devaraj Patil said that Kishore tied the hands and legs of his two children, drowned them in water-filled buckets, and killed them before taking his own life.
The police reportedly recovered a suicide note in which Chandra Kishore reportedly mentioned that he was deeply troubled by his children’s inability to cope with academic competition, reported Hyderabad News Hunt.
A note reportedly revealed his anxiety about his children’s future.
Meanwhile, Urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, Kishore’s elder brother stated that his brother was financially stable and owned assets.
Police said that forensic teams have been deployed and further investigation is currently underway.
Meanwhile, in a separate incidents on Holi, two boys drowned in Uttar Pradesh and three people drowned in Maharashtra's Pune districts and four teenage boys drowned in Ulhas river in Thane district's Badlapur area.
