A court here on Monday issued an arrest warrant against India cricketer Mohammed Shami, which gave him 15 days to surrender and apply for bail for alleged domestic violence accusations levelled against him by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan.
The judge of the Alipore court issued the warrant around six months after the police filed a charge sheet in the case against the celebrated cricketer under Section 498A (domestic violence) and 354A (sexual harassment).
Shami is presently in the Caribbean islands as part of the Indian Test team which is playing the second Test of the two-match series against the West Indies.
On Sunday, Mohd Shami had become the 15th India bowler to reach 150 Test wickets for the country.
The 28-year-old reached the millstone when he had Rahkeem Cornwall caught by Ajinkya Rahane for 14 on Day 3 of the second Test in Jamaica. Shami came into the match with 148 test wickets to his name and removed Shimron Hetmyer for 34 to take his tally to 149.
Shami had a good match in the first Test as well, he picked up four wickets to help India thrash the hosts by a whopping 318 run margin.
