The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday denied agreeing to a hybrid arrangement offered by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the matches of the Indian team in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The BCCI representative has told news agency ANI that any decision on the Asia Cup 2023 will be taken after the IPL finals on 28 May.
The development came as Pakistan is hoping to host the Asia Cup 2023, but BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has cleared that the Indian cricket team will not travel to Pakistan for any tournament.
The reports in Pakistani media were claiming that the BCCI has accepted the hybrid model offered by PCB. The hybrid model offers conducting India matches at neutral venues like United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sri Lanka, United Kingdom (UK), or Bangladesh.
The source of the BCCI added that it has invited Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials to watch the final of IPL 2023 between Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans and MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, which will take place on Sunday in Ahmedabad.
Earlier, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) supported the BCCI's call to move the Asia Cup 2023 out of Pakistan.
The BCCI source also spoke on the venues of the ODI World Cup 2023 and said that they will be finalised after the IPL finals.
Najam Sethi, who holds the position of chairperson in the PCB Management Committee, advocated for a sensible strategy to address the impending crisis surrounding the hosting of the Asia Cup in the country.
