Night curfew in Assam will be in place between 11 pm and 5 am now instead of beginning at 10 pm, said the state government in a fresh set of guidelines on Tuesday.

The order, issued by Assam State Disaster Management Authority, stated that commercial establishments can remain open till 10 pm. Further, it said that restaurants and eateries can function with only 50% capacity till 10 pm.

"Takeaways and food items from restaurants, dhabas and other eateries will also be not allowed after 10 pm," it said.

With respect to public transport, it said: "Goods transport shall continue unhindered" and "auto-rickshaws, cycle rickshaws and taxis can operate for passengers with 100% seating capacity" in compliance with all Covid protocols.

"Cinema halls and theatres will be allowed with 50% seating capacity of fully vaccinated viewers and observance of Covid-19 appropriate behaviour," said the release.

Marriages and religious functions will be permitted with not more than 50 people in attendance. Everybody present in such gathering should be vaccinated with at least the first anti-Covid jabs.

In addition to this, not more than 60 fully vaccinated people per hour will be allowed at iconic religious places; 40 people fully vaccinated per hour at other religious places.

All government servants (including contractual and fixed pay) who have taken at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine can attend the office.

Also, government and private organizations rendering essential/emergency services, law enforcement services and election work will continue without any restrictions in all districts.

Delivery of essential commodities through e-commerce can run round the clock with Pharmacies, hospitals, animal care centres and veterinary clinics that can remain open 24 hours a day.

The decision was taken as the daily new cases hover= between 300 and 400, mostly in the urban and peri-urban areas. Most of the districts are reporting less than 10 cases per day for the last four-five weeks, said the government.
