Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik accompanied Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishanw to the site of tragic train accident in Balasore district.In a video shared by news agency ANI, CM Patnaik and the Railway Minister can be seen speaking to officials at the accident site.
CM Patnaik had shared his concern regarding the horrific train accident on Friday, he wrote, “I am concerned to learn about the Karmandal Express accident in Baltimore. It was indeed a very fatal accident. The Revenue Minister and SRC have ordered to visit the spot and supervise all the work. We wish everyone the best of care and the best of luck to the injured."
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Patnaik had said that he would fly to the accident site and take stock of the situation on June 3. Describing the situation as 'truly tragic', the Chief Minister had revealed that the state government was concerned about taking care of the bodies and shifting the living to the hospital.
Odisha Government has also declared a state of mourning on June 3. This would mean that no celebration will take place across the state on the day.
More than 233 people have been killed while almost 900 people have been injured in the accident that took place in the tragic train accident that occurred near Balasore district's Bahanaga Baazar station on Friday.
According to reports, the train accident occurred at around 7 pm on Friday when several coaches of the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express derailed and fell onto the adjacent tracks. The Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express then collided with these coaches, causing its own coaches to capsize. Shortly afterwards, a goods train collided with these derailed coaches.
