The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has opened a new Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) in Bengaluru where Aadhaar card holders can book an online appointment to update their address, mobile number and other details. The UIDAI has styled these ASK centres on the lines of the Passport Seva Kendras where also you need to book an online appointment to avail related services.

10 things to know about UIDAI's new Aadhaar centre in Bengaluru:

1) The new Aadhaar centre, opened in Bengaluru's Basavanagudi, has the capacity to handle up to 1,000 requests every day.

2) It is open from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm every day. The Aadhaar centre is closed every Tuesday.

3) If you are enrolling for a new Aadhaar card, there are no charges you need to pay at the centre.

4) Updating any detail in your existing Aadhaar database is charged at the rate of 50.

5) You can book an online appointment at ask.uidai.gov.in for the Bengaluru centre. You need to first select the centre where you want an appointment after which you click on "Proceed to Book Appointment". You also need to do a one time registration with your phone number. You will then get the option to either update your Aadhaar data or apply for a new enrolment.

6) To avail the services you can choose a date and time of your choice depending on availability.

7) Besides enrolling for a new Aadhaar card, you can also update your name, address, mobile number, email id, date of birth and gender. You can also update your biometric details like photo, fingerprint and iris.

8) Other than Bengaluru, the UIDAI has also opened similar ASK centres in Delhi, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Agra, Vijayawada, Patna, Chennai and Hisar.

9) The Aadhaar-issuing body plans to open 114 such centres in 53 cities across India by the end of the year at an estimated project cost of 300-400 crore.

10) According to new rules, even NRIs with valid Indian passport can also apply for Aadhaar cards on arrival, without the 182-day waiting period.
