Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha's convoy was attacked by RJD supporters on Thursday, the BJP candidate from the state's Lakhisarai Assembly constituency said.

According to Sinha, RJD supporters surrounded his vehicle, shouted ‘Murdabad’ slogans and hurled slippers at him, preventing his convoy to move ahead.

Videos circulating on social media further showed a group of people, allegedly RJD supporters, pelting stones at the convoy.

The incident took place in Sinha's Lakhisarai constituency. Police personnel were present at the spot.

It happened on the day the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 is underway.

Speaking about the incident to journalists at the district, Vijay Sinha said that the RJD ‘goons’ will be attacked with bulldozers when the NDA comes to power.

“These are the goons of RJD. Satta mein aa rahi hai NDA isliye inke chhati pe bulldozer chalega. The goons are not letting me visit the village. Vijay Sinha is going to win...They turned away my polling agent and did not let him vote...Look at their hooliganism...This is 404 and 405 booth numbers of Khoriari village,” he said.

Sinha further said the incident was "proof that once in power, the RJD would usher in jungle raj in the state".

EC orders strict action

Vijay Sinha also accused the local authorities of inaction during the attack.

“Slippers and cow dung were flung at my convoy. Stones were also thrown. The RJD workers were trying to capture a polling booth. We will complain to the Election Commission,” he said.

The incident was taken note of by the Election Commission, with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar saying that no one will be allowed to break the law. He also ordered Bihar DGP to take strict action against the miscreants.

Videos also showed that cow dung was hurled at the BJP leader's car, with was covered with it.

Police says polling continuing at Lakhisarai

Lakhisarai SP Ajay Kumar said polling was continuing in the area where Vijay Sinha alleged that his convoy was attacked by RJD supporters.

The Deputy CM spoke to SP on the phone following the incident, as per ANI.

“I have received reports of some protests over broken roads, but I will be able to confirm what actually happened only after visiting the site,” the SP said.

Voting was underway for 121 seats in the first phase of Bihar assembly elections amid tight security arrangements, an official said.

RJD reacts

The RJD has denied attacking the Deputy CM's accusations and called him a liar.

RJD spokesperson Shakti Yadav said, “He (Sinha) is a liar. He gets Z Security; it's his party that is in power in the state and controls the administration. Still, you are levelling these false allegations? Locals raised questions on a broken drain, and that is what happened.”
