BMC Covid Scam: ED Summons IAS officer Sanjeev Jaiswal for questioning today
IAS officer Sanjeev Jaiswal has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in relation to the BMC Covid Scam case. The ED has recorded statements of eight people and seized cash, jewellery, and documents worth crores of rupees.

Enforcement directorate has summoned IAS officer Sanjeev Jaiswal for questioning in relation to the BMC Covid Scam case today. The federal agency had called Jaiswal was called for questioning earlier as well but he didn't do so.
According to news agency ANI, ED has recorded statements of 8 people in the BMC covid scam case. Earlier on June 21, ED had conducted raids at some locations associated with BMC officials among other people including Sanjeev Jaiswal.
Reportedly, ED had seized ₹68 lakhs of cash and jewellery amounting to ₹2.4 crore during the raids. Documents of 50 immovable properties located at various places in Maharashtra with a market value of more than ₹150 crore, fixed deposits and investments worth ₹15 crore have also been recovered.
ED also questioned Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Suraj Chavan in connection with the money laundering case involving the BMC Covid Scam case. Chavan identifies himself as a secretary of Shiv Sena (UBT) and Yuva Sena Core Committee Member on his Twitter bio.
What is the BMC Covid Scam case?
Mumbai Police had registered a forgery case against Lifeline Hospital Management Services in August 2022. Reportedly, company is run by ShivSena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut's close aid Sujit Patkar and his three partners. Based on the FIR by Mumbai Police, ED had registered a separate case to investigate the money laundering angle.
According to the FIR, Patkar and Lifeline Hospital submitted a fake partnership deed to the BMC and obtained contracts for managing COVID-19 centres at Mumbai's NSEL, Worli, Dahisar and some areas in Pune without having any experience in the medical field.
Meanwhile, ED has alleged that one company was giving body bags for dead COVID-19 patients to another company for ₹2,000. That company was giving the same body bags to the Central Procurement Department for ₹6,800 and this contract was signed by the then BMC mayor.
