A day after Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor was sent to jail after he refused to sign the bail bond, as he was 'forcibly' removed from Gandhi Maidan at 4 am, he was on Tuesday found to be suffering from dehydration and was hospitalised for a comprehensive medical check-up, reported PTI. Currently he is in ICU.
After a doctor visited him at his home and advised hospitalisation on Tuesday, his party leaders took Kishor to a private healthcare facility in Patna in an ambulance.
"There are certain medical issues that need to be thoroughly examined. He is suffering from infection and dehydration. He is also weak and feeling discomfort," PTI quoted the doctor as saying.
Before leaving for hospital, Kishor, told reporters, as the news agency quoted, "My fast unto death will continue".
Kishore was holding the fast unto death at Gandhi Maidan – a restricted site near Mahatma Gandhi statute – and was arrested on 6 January's morning. Police stated that he violated a Patna High Court order that forbids any such demonstration at a place other than Gardani Bagh locality in the city.
Following his arrest, Prashant Kishor was granted bail on the condition that he would not participate in any future protests and a bond of ₹25,000 but the former political strategist refused to sign it.
Since 2 January, Kishor was on an indefinite fast to back the civil service aspirants who have been demanding the cancellation of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination, held in December 2024.
Immediately after his arrest, the poll strategist-turned-politician was taken to Patna AIIMS for a medical check-up. “Initially, he did not allow officials to get his medical examination done at AIIMS. Finally, he agreed and his check-up was done at a medical facility near Fatuha,” the official added.
