Civil Hospital Ambala Cantt Medical Officer, Dr. Kaushal Kumar, "Seven people died and more than 20 people were injured in a bus accident on the Ambala-Delhi-Jammu National Highway." He added, “The accident occurred … early today.”
The video footage from the scene depicts a damaged bus with rescue teams on-site, while heavy traffic passes by. A fire truck also arrived at the site to assist in rescue efforts.
The bus that met the accident was taking pilgrims to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine on Friday. The concerned authorities are investigating the cause of the bus accident.
The minibus bus headed to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir left from Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr on Thursday evening. It was carrying around 30 people with all passengers being relatives, one of the injured told reporters.
The collision severely damaged the front part of the minibus. Seven passengers, including a six-month-old infant, were killed, and 20 others sustained injuries.
Police official informed PTI, “The bus was carrying around 30 people from Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr who were going to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir. All of them were relatives.”
Upon hearing the passengers' screams, passers-by pulled the injured from the mangled bus. Subsequently, with police assistance, the injured were taken to two adjacent hospitals, reported PTI quoting police officials. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been kept in a mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Soon after the bus met an accident near Mohra village, the truck driver fled from the spot, leaving behind his vehicle. A case has been registered against the driver who fled from the spot after the accident, leaving behind his vehicle. The police informed PTI, “Efforts are being made to nab him.”
