Canada has announced a significant change in its Express Entry System, which will come into effect after spring next year, 2025. As per the revised rules, candidates applying for permanent residency (PR) will not get additional points for their job offers. The move is likely to impact Indians who seek to apply for permanent residence in Canada next year.
What is the job offer advantage in Canada's Express Entry system?
Canadian government manages the online applications for permanent residence by skilled workers. According to the present Express Entry system, applicants with valid job offers can get an additional 50 or even 200 comprehensive ranking system (CRS) points. These additional points were considered a game-changer for many applicants who were not able to clear the system for PR.
Why has Canada cut job application benefit in Express System?
The present move is aimed at reducing fraud in the PR application system by skilled workers. “As part of ongoing efforts to prevent and reduce fraud, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced that Express Entry candidates will no longer receive additional points for having a job offer,” according to an official statement on December 23.
Identifying the move as ‘temporary,’ the government said that the decision would help curb fraud in the Express System.
“We are taking important steps to reduce fraud while continuing to attract the skilled talent our economy needs. Immigration has always been a cornerstone of Canada’s success, and we remain committed to welcoming the best and brightest to Canada so that everyone has access to the quality jobs, homes and supports they need to thrive,” said Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
Will the change affect candidates who have already applied for PR?
The changes will come into effect in spring 2025 and will cover all applicants of Express System. However, the changes will not be implemented on those who have already applied for the application or have been invited to apply.
The Express Entry System is a lucrative way for Indians to settle abroad in North American countries. It also allows Canada to fulfill its workforce demand by offering permanent residence to skilled workers from other countries.
