Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel criticized the newly-released film ‘Adipurush’ and said the state government may consider banning the film in theaters on public demand. The Congress leader also attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other right-wing leaders for their silence over the controversy associated with the movie 'Adipurush.' Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that the selection of words in the film's dialogues is "objectionable and of low-level".
"First the photo of Lord Ram and Hanuman were distorted and now, they (without naming anyone) are making them (the character of Lord Ram and Hanuman in the movie) use such words, the current generation will watch it what impact will it put on them," the Chief Minister said.
"Public is watching this and if a demand will be raised to ban the movie then it will be considered," Bhupesh Baghel added.
Bhupesh Baghel took a jibe at right-wing groups and said that those who shut theaters over minor issues are silent nowadays.
"Those, who shut theatres as well as set them on fire over minor issues, are silent nowadays, CM Baghel mocked (right-wing outfits taking their name) and further elaborated that lord Hanuman (character in the movie) was made using such words which are being used by people of Bajrang Dal," the CM said.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister also objected to the face of Lord Hanuman in the film Adipurush and said this is not the way our society imagines Lord Hanuman.
"This is highly objectionable and I strongly condemned it. I want to ask the people of the so-called political party, who claimed them as custodians of religion, are still silent on this issue," Baghel said.
The Chief Minister also lauded former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for asking Ramanand Sagar to make a Ramayan serial.
"Today, attempts are being made to control everything. Once Mumbai film city was not under anyone's control and made films on special events in society, politics, or social issues but a bid is being made to pressurize the industry in the name of 10 grams of Cannabis. As a result of the ongoing situation, film directors, actors, and writers have to work as per the instruction of Delhi," he added.
