New Delhi: Chief of army staff (COAS) General Manoj Pande has left for a two-day visit to Egypt from 16 to 17 May, said a Ministry of Defence statement on Monday. During the visit, the COAS will hold discussions with senior military leadership of Egypt to explore avenues for further enhancing defence relations between the two countries.
He will also visit various Egyptian Armed Forces establishments to exchange ideas on issues of mutual interest.
The army chief is scheduled to meet the commander-in-chief of the Egyptian armed forces, minister of defence and military production, the chief of staff of the Egyptian armed forces, among others.
The visit comes at a time when military relations between India and Egypt are on the rise. The Egyptian armed forces contingent made its first appearance at India’s 74th Republic Day parade earlier this year, and the two countries conducted their first-ever joint exercise between Special Forces, named “Ex Cyclone-I” in January.
“The visit of the COAS will further deepen the bilateral relationships between the two Armies and act as a catalyst for closer coordination and cooperation between the two countries on a host of strategic issues,” the statement said.
