Congress slams PM Modi, Amit Shah amid surging terror attacks: 'Abrogation of Article 370 will not 'change' Kashmir

Congress leader Vivek Tankha lashed out at the Narendra Modi government on Wednesday amid a surge in terrorist activity. The politician insisted that the abrogation of Article 370 would not ‘change’ Kashmir and stressed the need to address ‘basic issues’. The remarks came mere hours after a CRPF jawan was killed and six security personnel were injured in two overnight encounters with terrorists in Kathua and Doda districts.

“As far as terrorism is concerned, we all are one. Everyone is together in all the efforts taken against the terrorism by government. But, I have been saying this to Amit (Shah) and PM Modi that (Article) 370 is not Kashmir. They have abrogated Article 370 due to which Kashmiri Pandits and others are happy. However, the fact is that Kashmir will not change by this. Kashmir will improve when its basic issues are addressed with its stakeholders,” he told PTI.

“We are very concerned about the series of terrorist attacks happening in Jammu. What are the security agencies and the government doing in the state? The government made a lot of noise in Parliament that it has improved the situation in J&K by removing Article 370 and making it a Union territory. They also sought votes in the parliamentary election on this…” said J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president Vikar Rasool Wani.

Terrorists engaged in a confrontation with security forces in the Gandoh area of Doda on Wednesday evening, marking the fourth such incident in the last three days. The Valley has seen a string of clashes over the past few days, leading to the death of several civilians and security personnel. 

Earlier on Tuesday, a CRPF jawan was killed and six security personnel were injured during two overnight encounters with terrorists in the Kathua and Doda districts. Another nine people were killed and 42 others injured in Reasi after a bus carrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori shrine was attacked on Sunday.
