As a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the railway board has instructed all zonal railways to remove all curtains and blankets from air conditioned trains coaches.
"All curtains to be removed from AC (air conditioned) coaches. Blankets to be withdrawn from service till further advise," railway ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
The minimum AC temperature in the trains will have to be set at 24-25 °C. The railway board has also asked all zonal railways to keep some additional washed bedsheets, in case of any crisis.
In first class AC coaches, blankets with fresh washed covers will be provided to passengers, if and when they ask for.
"All curtains and spare blankets to be washed, dried and stored in clean, dry storage facility," the ministry said.
Besides, the board has also asked zonal railways to ensure cleanliness and disinfection of coaches as well as toilets.
"Availability of liquid soaps and water and toilets of coaches and pantry cars should be ensured. Full watering of trains at watering stations should be ensured," the ministry said.
Indian government is leaving no stone unturned to contain the virus outbreak, which left two people dead so far and has infected 108 people across the country. There are 1.56 lakh confirmed cases of coronavirus across the world since the first case was reported in Wuhan, China in December. More than 5,800 people have died due to this infection.
